AFP Seeks Volunteers for Member Code of Conduct Committee
AFP Global is looking for volunteers to join our Member Code of Conduct Committee. Applications are open through June 3, 2024. Click here to apply.
In December of 2023, AFP Global Board Chair, Birgit Smith Burton, convened a task force charged with reviewing the implementation and enforcement of AFP’s Member Code of Conduct. After significant discussion and input from key stakeholders, the task force made recommendations to the AFP Board of Directors, which were accepted at their meeting in April during AFP ICON in Toronto.
Among these suggestions was the creation of a standing Member Code of Conduct Committee, which would be responsible for educating members about the code, as well as addressing complaints and enforcing procedures related to the newly revised Member Code of Conduct after it goes into effect in January of 2025.
As this is a new committee, however, the members selected for the initial term will have additional responsibilities prior to the code going into effect.
This first committee group will be developing foundational guidelines for the new committee’s functionality, including establishing the procedures for filing complaints or concerns related to member treatment.
The term for this committee will typically be two years, however as there is preliminary work that needs to be completed before January, the first cohort of committee members would begin work as soon as they are selected and continue their term through December of 2026. The AFP Global Board Chair, Birgit Smith Burton, will reconvene the Member Fair Behavior Policy task force to select the first group of committee members.
Applicants for the committee must be:
- AFP members in good standing and must maintain their membership through the duration of their term.
- Able to attend the mandatory new member orientation, which is scheduled to take place virtually on Thursday, June 27 from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. ET.
- Ready to begin work immediately after selection and commit to participating in 75% of committee activity.
Please reference the job description for additional information about the position.
Thank you for considering serving on this committee! Having a committee dedicated to member conduct will help ensure that there are standardized processes in place, for maximum transparency, accessibility, and equity. This is part of AFP’s broader, organization-wide effort to put into practice our inclusion, diversity, equity, and access values.
