National Philanthropy Day Highlight: Mary’s Center
Throughout the month of November, the Association of Fundraising Professionals will be highlighting honorees from National Philanthropy Day chapter events around the world, showcasing outstanding donors, volunteers, corporations, foundations and others who are being recognized for their commitment to change and philanthropy.
Today, we’re featuring the AFP Washington, DC Metro Area Chapter, who is honoring a team of fundraisers with Mary’s Center, a local nonprofit organization providing bilingual health services to families, as well as pregnant women and their infants.
The Mary’s Center development team is comprised of eight committed, hardworking professionals who are dedicated to serving the women and children of the District of Columbia and Maryland:
- Maria Gomez, RN, MPH, President & CEO
- Antonio Caro, Development Associate
- Michelle Maxberry, Manager, Corporate Partnerships & Events
- Sarah McIntosh, Assistant Director, Foundation Relations
- Heather Morgan, CFRE, Chief Development Officer
- Maria-Lynn Okanlawon, Development Assistant
- Anne Sclater, Manager, Government Grants
- Paige Warner, Development Associate
Beginning as a basement clinic in Adams Morgan of D.C., the organization has grown exponentially, serving more than 50,000 families per year, providing comprehensive health, dental and mental health services to those in need, as well as education, job training and social services.
In 2018, Mary’s Center provided more than $8 million in free care to its uninsured participants, and as the need for services continues to grow, the development team continues to work tirelessly to make sure those who seek services, are given an opportunity.
