AFP's Role in Youth in Philanthropy

AFP is committed to the development of the next generation of fundraisers. The Association understands that in order to ensure there will be interest in the nonprofit sector and fundraising in the future, young people must be exposed to philanthropy in a meaningful way at a young age. To that end, more than ten years ago, AFP created the Youth in Philanthropy subcommittee.

AFP’s Youth in Philanthropy subcommittee, made up of a group of passionate and dedicated AFP members, is charged with the task of helping chapters and the profession involve youth in philanthropy. For AFP, YIP encompasses its efforts to introduce philanthropy and fundraising to children and young people in grades K-12.

The goals of the subcommittee are to:

  • Develop communications tools to encourage chapters to develop youth in philanthropy programming at various levels and to provide resources and share information
  • Create “turn-key” products, such as the Careers in Fundraising Toolkit and the Youth in Philanthropy Curriculum, for chapters to implement in their communities
  • Support the work of the Next Generation Committee of AFP and incorporate YIP efforts into the overall goals of the Committee
  • Provide information, advice, support, training and mentoring to chapters engaged in youth philanthropy efforts
  • Maintain and deepen collaborative relationships with other national Youth Philanthropy organizations.
